ideas for ISB sessions
The yahoo groups have been of immense help , through out the process of application to now that is almost till we actually land up at ISB.
Judging by the response, help and guidance received through Yahoo! groups has set me thinking on the follwoing lines.
Present Scenario : ISB admits once a year.
The course duration is 1 year.( 11 months actually)
The problem : No student seniors on campus for new batches,
which actually means robbing the new admits of essential guidance and mentorship. Also networking and learning opportunities.I believe networking with seniors will be much better if we have known them for some time instead of through alumini meets etc.
The solution that I think would take care of the problem:
ISB should have admits twice a year ( April and OCtober). I guess major programs have such options abroad.
There are loads of benefits I percieve in this :
Benefits:
1. Less seasonal workload for admissions office.( I dunno what they do when not whetting the applications and formulating next year's process)
2. Less seasonal workload for CAS office.( I don't know much abt their working though)
3. a.)Companies can recruit throughout the year as per requirement instead of waiting
for placement season.
( b.) have advantage over other Indian B-Schools in this respect.
4. More convinience for visiting professors, and students as they can plan better the cources and time better.
5. Well spaced out utilization of quality infrastructure.
6. Better attendance for guest speakers ( oweing to "enthusiasm" of new and "need" of senior students.)
6. Round the year income for associated businesses ( ex. food mess etc.)
7. Will help keep interest in ISB alive through out the year, amongst prospects , industry and media. ( though for media it might work the other way round too.)
Student benefits:
1. Opportunity to interact with seniors at ISB.
2. More networking and closer associations possible.
3. Help build quality of students passing out, because of senior student's insights.
4. Help students continuously monitor and revisit career goals based on current alumini feedback of job markets.
5. Help build a culture and traditions ( like the dunking one on one's birthday) .
6. Make the whole experience a more learning one in the sense that knowledge and tradtions may be passed down from batch to batch.
